Tipong Colliery: 'David' at Tipong Colliery is probably the smallest active steam locos in the world. The train is used to haul few bogie's of coal from mine to loading shed. During its journey , it crosses over high bridges , tunnels and valleys and so offering excellent photo opportunities. There is another steam engine acquired Darjeeling railways does most of the duties. Riga Sugar Mill: The last known sugar mill in India with its own active steam locomotive 'Hudswell Clarke' does the duty of hauling sugar cane from nearest railway station in Riga to Sugar Mill. Hudswell is also probably the last active locomotive in the world. It is not used daily any longer but can be fired to seam for photo opportunity. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway: This narrow gage train has earned status of UNESCO World Heritage. It is possible to enjoy a joy ride from Darjeeling to Ghoom via Barista loop almost daily. There is a small museum at Ghoom Railway station showcasing the history – Triumph & Tyranny of this world famous railways.

TOUR DESTINATIONS


Day 1: Arrive Kolkata
Arrive Kolkata. On arrival transfer to hotel for overnight stay.


Day 2: Kolkata – Dibrugarh – Tipong
Transfer to the airport to connect the flight to Dibrugarh. On arrival drive to Tipong Colliery. En route visit Ledo brick factory (now defunct) to take photographs. Continue driving to Tipong.


Day 3-4: Tipong
Full day photo shooting at Tipong Factory. Visit various Steam Locomotives dating back to late 19th and early 20th century engins at work.


Day 5: Tipong – Tinsukia – Guwahati
Drive to Tinsukia to board overnight train to Guwahati.


Day 6: Guwahati - Patna - Riga
Arrive Guwahati and fly to Patna. From Patna drive to Riga Sugar Mills via Samastipur.


Day 7-8: Riga
Full day photo shooting at Riga Factory. Visit various Steam Locomotives at work.


Day 9: Riga - Patna - Delhi
Drive back to Patna and board fligh to Delhi. On arrival transfer to hotel.


Day 10: Delhi – Rewari - Departure
Morning excursion to Rewari Loco Shed. The last functional loco shade for servicing Steam Locomotives. Later drive back to Delhi and transfer to airport for flight to onward destination.


WHEN TO TRAVEL: October through March.
WHAT TO WEAR: Cottons with light woolens from December to February.
